Whiplash is a Marvel Comics supervillain who has taken on several iterations. The most prominent version in media is based on the character that appeared in the movie Iron Man 2.
In the film, Whiplash is portrayed as Ivan Vanko, a Russian physicist and ex-convict. He is played by Mickey Rourke.
Vanko seeks revenge on the Stark family for perceived wrongs committed by Howard Stark against his father. Using his scientific knowledge, he builds a powerful arc reactor-based weapon in the form of electrified whips. Whiplash's first appearance is in Iron Man 2.
